Rose’s Journey to Healing: Overcoming Autoimmune Illnesses
Rosebud (aka Rose) is a 34-year-old performer in Brooklyn, NY, and after two years on the carnivore diet, says she is working to put together the puzzle pieces of her health. “I’m starting to realize just why carnivore has been so positively impactful for me.”
Rose’s journey to healing from several autoimmune and other debilitating illnesses began at a young age, as she watched her mom struggle to obtain a diagnosis and find proper treatment for her health conditions. “I was predisposed at an early age to try to look for alternative answers to be able to make wise choices that would help me not experience the same struggles in my life.”
From Veganism to Carnivore: Finding the Right Diet
After being diagnosed as pre-diabetic at age 13, Rose reversed that diagnosis by cutting out all soda and drastically reducing her sugar intake. In her early teens, she began following a vegan diet as she thought it would help her avoid several autoimmune issues that run in her family.
“At the time, I was working with a young woman who was an avid vegan, and she encouraged me to try it to address my severe acne and symptoms of IBS,” Rose shares. “I was really desperate at a young age. I was 15, and followed the vegan diet, including raw veganism, on and off until I was 26.”
The Miracle of the Carnivore Diet: Healing Chronic Conditions
Soon after, Rose was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, a chronic, painful bladder condition, and in her early 20s, she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia. “I suffered from very severe depression that culminated in my late teens and early twenties with multiple suicide attempts,” Rose recalls. “I’ve always been in the arts and creative, and I felt like when I was taking antidepressants, I couldn’t tap into any of that at all.
Even though it might be dangerous to be unmedicated, I just felt like it was more my priority to be in touch with my creativity.” Thankfully, Rose would later discover that once she was following the carnivore diet, she no longer had to make that choice between struggling with depression and tapping into her creative passions.
After raw veganism led Rose to her lowest point in her health, including losing most of her muscle mass, being unable to dress herself, and losing her menstrual cycle, Rose came upon the ketogenic diet. A year into that approach, she was struggling with heart palpitations, and knew she had to make some changes. “It dawned on me that if I was willing to go so far as raw veganism, why wouldn’t the pendulum swing the other way? So I transitioned to the carnivore diet and immediately saw incredible results.”
The Joy of Simple Eating: Beef, Eggs, and Steaks
After removing plants from her diet, she reports “near miraculous” healing from all of her chronic conditions, including IBS, hypothyroidism, migraines, depression, and fibromyalgia. Rose enjoys a simple diet of ground beef, eggs, and looks forward to steak and pork from a popular meat box subscription, as well as visits to her local butcher.
Occasionally, she’ll try other ruminant meats and has begun to incorporate some organ meat as well. “I will never get bored of steaks!” she declares. “Even after 2 years, I get excited every time it’s time to sit down and eat.”
A New Lease on Life: Celebrating the Benefits of the Carnivore Diet
Today, Rose celebrates what the carnivore diet has done for her life. “Instead of having to say no, I can say yes. I have a life now where I didn’t before.” She also enjoys being part of the Carnivore.Diet community with like-minded people who are on a shared journey to better health and healing.
