We hear from a busy 34-year-old paramedic who was able to avoid back surgery and heal faster from the Carnivore Diet.
“I am a firm believer that eating animal-based foods high in animal fats has kept me away for surgery despite a debilitating injury.”
While on the job responding to 9-1-1 calls, he sustained a work-related spinal injury that included a bulged disc and a herniated disc in his lower back. He had to temporarily be taken off duty due to nerve impingement and debilitating pain. However, being on a ketogenic diet and later the Carnivore Diet, he was back on duty responding to 9-1-1 calls within a month!
“My main reason for putting myself into ketosis was to heal and reduce inflammation. I discovered through online research that countless people had been able to heal depression, hypertension, diabetes, and significantly reduce seizures.” He decided to try the diet for himself and was astounded with his results.
He continues, “Less than a year on the Carnivore Diet, I was able to heal and lose 60 pounds. I have constant energy all day, and no longer feel sluggish after meals. Food now energizes me and this completely changed my relationship with food. I can attest that food truly heals.”
In addition, this paramedic also found that eating 90% carnivore foods healed his hypertension. “I consistently had a blood pressure higher than 160 over 90, and ever since going keto and now carnivore, my readings are more like 110 over 70.”
A few months into healing from the Carnivore Diet, though, he did experience some setbacks after going back to old habits and consuming excess carbs. At the time, he felt he could indulge more, but noticed negative impacts on his sleep and unfortunately ended up reinjuring his back while lifting a 400 pound patient. “Thanks to the advice of Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Shawn Baker, I knew exactly what to do to get back on track. I bounced back quickly, and within a month I was back to work and back down to my healthy weight.”
The following year, he experienced another setback that turned out to be a lumbar disc herniation that was bigger than before. A month prior, he had gone back to some of his old eating habits due to an especially busy time at work. After an adverse reaction to steroids prescribed for the pain, he found an osteopathic doctor who has encouraged him to stay on the Carnivore Diet to help aid in his recovery.
“I’m focusing on eating high fat for energy and my back pain is once again reversing. I know that if I had not been proactive and found this way of eating, I’d be healing from another surgery instead of on my way to recovery.”
