Isabel’s Journey to a Healthier Lifestyle
Isabel grew up eating lots of bread, pasta, and fruit. She even found herself addicted to carbohydrates. At the age of eight, Isabel started developing daily headaches, which would sometimes evolve into migraines. She was also diagnosed with hypoglycemia at thirteen, describing the sugar crashes she experienced as being very difficult.
Symptoms and Health Challenges Isabel Faced
Isabel was hungry throughout the day and even ate six to seven times daily. She had many other ailments plaguing her, including stomach aches and pain using the restroom. Isabel also struggled with joint pain, frequent muscle injuries, grinding her teeth, sleep apnea, and difficulty focusing. She was diagnosed as being chronically tired and needed two to three daily naps to function. She also often got sick with the flu and was forced to take many antibiotics.
Discovering the Connection between Diet and Health
As a teenager, Isabel was also diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Her menstrual cycles lasted anywhere from forty to sixty days. She said her irregular cycles initially didn’t feel like a big problem when she was a teenager – she didn’t mind having so many days between her cycles. However, when she became an adult and wanted to start having children, it wasn’t easy to know when she was ovulating because her menstrual cycle was never regular.
Successes and Benefits of the Carnivore Diet for Isabel
She says the most painful part about her health journey has been the six miscarriages she has experienced – most of which occurred between the 10th and the 16th week of her pregnancies. She sought answers from her doctors, but no one could seem to explain why she could not carry a baby to term.
Isabel’s Transition to the Carnivore Diet
It wasn’t until her husband suggested her diet may be at fault that Isabel started to wonder if she could do more for her health. Following her husband’s lead, she began to follow the Atkins diet, sometimes called the ketogenic diet. She reduced her carbohydrate intake to around twenty carbs a day and saw an immediate improvement in all her symptoms.
Isabel has now been living the carnivore lifestyle for over three years. She no longer struggles with any of her previous ailments. She was also able to get pregnant while following the carnivore diet. She confessed to adding some keto foods during her pregnancy due to a few weeks of meat aversion. Through it all, she carried her baby to full term and delivered a healthy baby boy. She jokes even though her son keeps her up in the middle of the night, she still feels less tired than before she found the carnivore way of life.
Isabel loves being in the carnivore community. She often uses the resources through MeatRx, like finding new recipes and listening to expert advice. She says carnivore is what works for her body, and she plans to continue to eat this way for her health.
