Hermetic eliminates migraines on carnivore diet

Hello carnivores, let me share my story with you. My name is Hermetic and in late 2010 or early 2011 I read The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance by Jeff Volek, & Stephen D. Phinney. I was intrigued and decided to give the ketogenic diet a try, mostly to lose some weight.

I used to be plagued by frequent migraines for many years; one of the reasons I decided to quit my job in 2008.

Bye bye migraines

In less than six months I lost 30 pounds, with not much effort at all; no cravings or other negative effects except for some discomfort and yucky feeling in the first couple weeks (common in the transition period). The loss of weight was not even the best thing this low-carb/high-fat diet did for me. I used to be plagued by frequent migraines for many years; one of the reasons I decided to quit my job in 2008. After a few months of ketosis my migraines pretty much stopped. I also noticed that the acid reflux that I used to have, and needed to take medication for before bed in order to get some sleep, also went away.

Clean eating

I still ate a small amount of carbs but I tried to keep it under 50 gms of carbs per day, eating a medium amount of protein compared with fat. I didn’t take in any extra protein from shakes, bars, or supplements, etc. The protein I got was from the fatty meat I ate. The fat in my diet was mostly the healthiest saturated fat from meat, but also some from dairy sources(heavy cream, cheese) and coconuts (including mct oil). The few carbs I got came mostly from non-starchy vegetables, like broccoli and cauliflower, and nuts and berries.

Clean thinking

I seemed to have more energy; no more of the afternoon drowsiness. My thinking seems to be clearer and more focused, replacing the brain fog that many seem to complain of at my age. I am in my late 50s, and I seem to be improving in health even if I am less active (this too I intend to change).

BREAKING THE KETO PLATEAU

These days I am pretty much full carnivore and eat mostly steak, and bacon and eggs. No vegetables at all. I feel even better and lost even a little bit more weight after I seemed to find a stable level on keto. But this might be partly from getting more active as well. I also used to eat some foods which were considered LC due to using non-sugar no-carb sweeteners (like stevia and xylitol) or were low net carbs by including enough fibre to balance out the carbs. I decided to give those up as well in going full carnivore. I also do intermittent fasting as well these days. No breakfast; eating only between the hours of 11AM and 6PM. It is no problem to do a fasting routine like that while being LCHF since one doesn’t get the pangs of hunger one does on carb based diet.
