Introduction: Stephanie’s Struggle with Weight and Inflammation
Stephanie has been overweight since she was a teenager. She says, for her, working out was never the problem. Stephanie has enjoyed playing sports and doing other exercises in hopes of losing fat but struggled with her diet.
Stephanie says for most of her life, she ate the Standard American Diet, which included a lot of fast food and premade, microwaveable foods, as she admits she doesn’t like to cook.
Stephanie says she had no major diagnosable diseases before finding the carnivore way of eating. Still, she was overweight and struggling with intense inflammation in her ankles, knees, and lower back.
At just thirty-three years old, she struggled to lie at night because her body ached. Stephanie would also have difficulty walking when she first got up in the morning because her ankles were so swollen.
Trying Keto: The Dirty and the Clean
During one of her pregnancies, Stephanie did a version of a “dirty” ketogenic diet. She said she ate a lot of fat bombs and used keto sweeteners, and had some success with the diet.
A couple of years later, Stephanie decided to try the keto diet again, but she followed a “cleaner” version this time. Stephanie says she ate a lot of vegetables, like tomatoes and peppers because they were her favorite.
Stephanie began noticing she was nauseous while eating so many vegetables, so she struggled to eat. Stephanie says she ate what was left in her house– meat, eggs, and cheese– out of sheer desperation.
Stephanie says she thought there was no way not eating vegetables could be healthy. Stephanie says, “I thought for sure I would get scurvy” from the lack of vitamin C.
Discovering the Carnivore Diet
Stephanie began researching an all-meat and dairy diet online, where she accidentally discovered the carnivore diet. Stephanie found there was an entire community of people not only surviving on meat and cheese but thriving.
She began to learn about nightshades and put together the pieces of why her body was trying to tell her she didn’t need vegetables.
Benefits of the Carnivore Diet
Stephanie committed to following the carnivore diet in 2020 and, within eight months, lost eighty-five pounds. Stephanie says she almost feels guilty for how easy the weight loss has been for her. Stephanie’s inflammation pain also disappeared, and she says she began to notice her mood improving.
She says, “I didn’t realize how much I was struggling until I was no longer struggling.” Tasks like cleaning her home and being active with her kids became much more manageable as she was no longer in pain and genuinely feeling happier.
Exercise and Community Support
Stephanie says exercise is still a big part of her health journey. She discovered the Beachbody workouts (now called Bodi) when confined to her home during the Covid pandemic. Stephanie describes working out four to five times a week from home. Stephanie says she also enjoys cycling and being active with her kids.
Stephanie appreciates the community of carnivore diet followers she has found online and plans to continue this lifestyle and journey to her health. Stephanie says many people in her personal life have been shocked when she tells them she eats steak daily.
Stephanie also says she feels like she has more influence on Instagram than in her personal community– which is okay with Stephanie. She says, “My experience speaks for itself.”
