Robert lost weight and improved his acid reflux on a carnivore diet

Two years ago, Robert was overweight, and found himself with “a big belly and chronic acid reflux.” Acid reflux, or gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is common, particularly among people who are overweight. Robert says “I know acid reflux might seem like a mundane health issue, but for those who have suffered from it you know how debilitating it can be.”

Our healthcare system seems to prefer medicating symptoms, rather than exploring curing problems through diet. Robert’s case was an example, as he explains “My doctor prescribed me a prescription strength antacid and told me the catch was it could cause stomach ulcers in the long run.”

Choosing a Different Path

Robert decided to not fill the prescription, but instead accept the responsibility of addressing the problems himself. “I decided not to take it and instead continued to suffer until I made a serious change in my diet.”

He began logically with working on improving his diet, gradually going through a common progression: “I started with a paleo approach, then keto and eventually, thanks to discovering Dr. Baker’s work, I am now dedicated to a fully carnivorous diet.”

Healing Results

Robert found that his body responded well to his new diet: “My acid reflux is cured.” Consider for a moment that none of the medications cure GERD; if a new drug came out that provided these results, it would be on the news 24/7!

The news of Robert successfully healing his reflux disease didn’t really seem to change his doctor’s opinion: “When I told my doctor, they still suggested I take the antacid.”

Other Health Benefits

Robert has seen his health improve in other ways, including weight loss and body composition: “I’ve lost 70 lbs and am leaner.” These improvements are helping his body to metabolize energy in a more efficient matter, and Robert is feeling those benefits: “have more energy than I’ve had in a very long time.”

Frustrations With Medical System

Robert finds himself, like many of us in the carnivore community, frustrated with the medical system’s lack of interest in using diet to help patients heal: “I don’t hear acid reflux talked about enough when it comes to dietary issues resolved through a carnivore approach, and I know Dr. Baker also suffered from this condition.”

He hopes that sharing his story can help others who are struggling with GERD: “I wanted to share my experience for others who might be struggling with it.”

Support for Regenerative Farming

Robert adds “Also, thanks to Dr. Baker’s passion for regenerative animal agriculture. I am now a proud supporter of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. I think it’s important for people following a carnivore approach to reach out to their local beef suppliers to learn more about the industry and how we as consumers can help. Thank you, Dr. Baker, for all of your hard work spreading this crucial health information, and best of luck in your athletic pursuits coming up!!”
