Helen manages chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), hereditary spherocytosis on carnivore diet

Helen battled a constellation of severe health challenges. With her life hanging in the balance, she turns to an unlikely ally for aid – the carnivore diet. This is a story of persistence, change, and a unique dietary approach.

A Struggle with Chronic Illnesses

Helen endures a complex combination of health problems. Anemia, a blood disorder called hereditary spherocytosis, and Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) define her daily life. The effects of CIRS make Helen hypersensitive to molds, certain bacteria, and mycotoxins, often found in buildings. The resulting symptoms, including debilitating brain fog and extreme weight loss, leave Helen in a state of ongoing discomfort. At her lowest point, she tips the scales at a dangerous 65 lbs.

Despite the severity of her condition, initial treatments do little to alleviate her symptoms. Various surgeries and two blood transfusions fail to bring about any substantial improvement, leaving Helen in search of an alternative.

Turning Towards a Unique Dietary Approach

In her quest for better health, Helen discovers the Shoemaker protocol, an evidence-based treatment plan specifically designed for individuals struggling with CIRS. Alongside this, Helen decides to adopt the carnivore diet. Known for its exclusion of plant-based foods, this diet focuses solely on animal products.

Helen’s diet consists primarily of meats and avoids plant-based foods. Her typical day begins with hotdog sausages and homemade waffles made from chocolate protein powder and eggs, topped with raw butter. Lunch and dinner comprise generous portions of meat, fish, and additional fat sources.

Carnivore Diet and Health Recovery

The introduction of the carnivore diet into Helen’s life marks a turning point in her recovery. Despite lingering digestive issues, she notices a significant change in her health status. The most apparent change is her weight. From a dangerously low 65 lbs, Helen manages to increase her weight to a healthier 130 lbs, primarily attributed to her new dietary regimen.

The effects of the diet are not just limited to weight gain. Helen finds herself with increased strength and energy. Where once she struggled to carry a pot of water, she now takes part in strength training four times a week at a local fitness center.

 

Navigating a New Normal

Now at a healthier weight, Helen learns to navigate her new normal. While she acknowledges her appetite has yet to regulate, she maintains her focus on her health and well-being. Her diet aims for at least one gram of protein per pound of weight each day, with the majority of her daily caloric intake coming from fats.

Beyond her dietary changes, Helen emphasizes the importance of staying active. Strength training forms an essential part of her daily routine, which has become crucial to regaining lost muscle and improving overall health.

Spreading Awareness and Encouraging Others

Armed with personal experience and the knowledge she has gained, Helen aspires to help others navigate the maze of chronic illnesses. Her aim is to become a Shoemaker protocol-certified coach, using her journey to guide others facing similar health struggles. She’s also mindful of warning others about potential misleading treatments for CIRS.

Through her experience, Helen highlights the importance of exploring various avenues when it comes to health. The carnivore diet, although unconventional, plays a critical role in Helen’s health recovery journey. It stands as a testament to the power of dietary changes in the pursuit of better health.
