Connor heals from diabetes, joint pain, immune issues on a carnivore diet

Controlling Blood Sugar With A Meat-Based Diet

In February 2018, Connor found Dr. Baker, and after hearing his story, he made the decision to follow a primary carnivore diet “with the help of a close friend who was also experimenting with the diet.” Connor defined his diet by saying, “When I say primarily Carnivore, I mean about 90% of my daily caloric intake comes from red meat.

I still introduce small doses of carbohydrates due to the fact that I’m a type 1 diabetic and am still experimenting with how low I can go in terms of carbs per day while still keeping my blood sugar high enough. This has involved experimenting with lowering my total daily dose of insulin, and I’m happy to say I’m down from 40 units a day to 15.”

Following his carnivore diet has proven to help Connor control his blood sugar and reduce his need for insulin injections: “My A1c has gone all the way down to 5.4. Prior to this diet, it was 7.6. The standard deviation, calculated by my constant glucose monitor, is also down from 50 to 20 mg/dL. In other words, my type 1 diabetes is under incredib

le control, and my sugars have never been as stable as they are now. Furthermore, the rest of my blood work has improved as well, and my blood pressure has gone down to normal levels.”

Healing Injuries With A Carnivore Diet

Connor has had some chronic issues with his knee, having sustained a weightlifting injury: “In 2010, I blew out my right knee very badly, and blew it out again in 2013. My surgeon said I would never squat with weight again in my life, and as a gym rat, this was pretty upsetting.”

Like many others, Connor has found that a carnivore diet makes healing easier. Eliminating the inflammatory nature of plant toxins, combined with the bioavailability of a balanced amino acid profile, can allow the body to rebuild damaged tissues.

Connor reports: “I’m happy to report though that I can now squat heavier than ever, and go running and sprinting in the very same day, and still be able to deadlift without pain the day after. All of my other injuries, including a partially torn rotator cuff and an injury to the quadratus lumborum on my right side, now no longer bother me, even with heavy and frequent squats, deadlifts, and bench presses.”

Losing Visceral Fat With A Meat-Based Diet

Connor has also lost weight around his middle, seeing his waist shrink. This is probably a visceral fat loss, which improved Connor’s waist-to-height ratio. That’s important because it directly correlates to the risk of heart disease! “My waist size has gone from a 36 to a 32 while at the same time gaining six pounds and getting stronger (I’m a skinny guy).”

Improved Immune

His immune system is better, too: “I also haven’t been sick since starting this diet, which is a big deal for me, a guy who has experienced sinus infections so bad that I was frequently on antibiotics 4-6 times a year.

“Thanks, Dr. Baker. Meat Heals.”
