From Struggle to Strength: A Family’s Carnivore Journey
Tracy and her husband embarked on their carnivore journey three years ago, and the results have been nothing short of transformative. “It has been absolutely game-changing in so many ways for me, for my family, for my husband,” Tracy explains. She believes strongly in the connection between physical health and mental clarity, stating, “You really can’t make good decisions if you’re not healthy.”
A Dramatic Health Turnaround
Prior to discovering the carnivore diet, Tracy’s husband weighed 387 pounds and was battling multiple sclerosis. His MS presented with optic neuritis and lesions on his thoracic and cervical spine. Despite medical recommendations for medications and infusions, he chose to explore nutritional alternatives.
“He went to the doctor for a physical, and his cholesterol was just a little bit high,” Tracy recalls. This minor concern became the catalyst for change. After initially trying keto, they discovered the carnivore approach and decided to commit fully.
Healing What Seemed Unhealable
The results were remarkable. Within months, Tracy’s husband began experiencing significant improvements. “He was sleeping all night, his testosterone went up, he lost a lot of weight,” Tracy shares. “He wasn’t depressed anymore. His anxiety was coming down.”
Perhaps most stunning was his annual MRI results: “Thoracic lesions undetectable as compared to last scan.” His vision improved from 20/40 to 20/20 in the affected eye, and his energy levels soared. “The man doesn’t sit down anymore,” Tracy notes. “He used to be a couch potato, no energy, didn’t really want to do anything.”
Addressing Her Own Health Challenges
Tracy herself was dealing with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), a condition where the body creates too much cerebrospinal fluid. Symptoms included pulsatile tinnitus—a whooshing sound in her ears—and she was prescribed daily diuretics and potassium supplements while being told to maintain low sodium intake.
After adopting the carnivore diet alongside her husband, Tracy experienced a reversal of her IIH symptoms, reduced inflammation, and halved her triglycerides. Her fasting glucose, which had consistently measured around 110, dropped to 90—a level she hadn’t seen in years.
Finding Natural Satiety
Both Tracy and her husband noticed significant changes in their appetite regulation. “I would say probably about three months in is when we both stopped needing to eat twice a day,” Tracy explains. “We just weren’t hungry.”
They naturally transitioned to eating one meal a day (OMAD), effectively practicing a 23-hour daily fast. “That’s not everybody, and that’s okay,” Tracy acknowledges. “But that’s just what we ended up doing.”
The Next Generation Benefits
Their success inspired their teenage son to try the carnivore diet after struggling with sugar addiction. The results came quickly: “He’s a completely different kid now. Goes for a jog every morning, gets a full night of sleep every day. His grades—he’s got straight A’s. He’s a 100% student.”
Their daughter, who has PCOS, started with a keto approach and began experiencing regular periods for the first time.
Beyond Physical Transformation
The benefits extended far beyond weight loss. Tracy describes experiencing mental clarity, renewed passion for her work, and emotional well-being. “I feel clear and sharp and focused and driven and excited. And I feel joy again where I don’t think I was feeling much joy before.”
Her husband lost 215 pounds in total, but the transformation goes deeper. “It’s not just, ‘Oh, I lost 35 pounds.’ It’s my entire life and my entire mental health, my spiritual health, my everything,” Tracy emphasizes. “We’re new people in all the right ways.”
Discovering True Health
Tracy now recognizes how poor her health actually was before making this change. “You may think you feel good right now. I can guarantee you, if you’re consuming seed oils, if you’re consuming processed foods, if you’re consuming processed sugars and dyes and all of that, you don’t feel good. You just think you do.”
The experience has been so profound that Tracy says, “I’ll never go back. I’m never going to change this. Never.”
