Elainie is someone who was a lifelong advocate of plant-based foods and, after discovering the health benefits of the carnivore diet, has finally found health. She says, “I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s over 30 years ago. During that time I had been a macrobiotic vegan, grew up veg and never felt well, energy nor digestive wise.”
Her problems with energy and digestive function convinced her that she still had not found the right diet for her body, and she began to investigate alternatives to her whole-food vegan diet. Elainie explains, “That led to what I perceive as a lifetime of dietary experimentation.” This journey would take her through much of the spectrum of nutrition programs out there.
Elainie tried the Weston A. Price (WAP) diet, which attempted to replicate what healthy indigenous people were eating in their own countries. This diet includes sprouted and fermented grains and resembles a Paleo diet with regional influences in other ways. While that diet did eliminate processed foods, Elainie had already done that with her vegan macro diet, and she still saw no results.
Over time, she would also try raw primal, raw paleo, and raw vegan diets, but to no avail. Elainie did, however, gather more information, finding that one version of a raw vegan diet further worsened her Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, “which almost landed me in the hospital as my TSH shot up past 650.”
Elainie left no stone unturned in her quest for health, gradually running out of plant-based diet options. She says, “I have been paleo, whole 30, AIP and the whole gamut.” None of these helped her feel better or provided the energy that she knew she should have.
She eventually decided to follow a ketogenic diet, and finding enough success with that approach encouraged Elainie to take it a step further: “After being keto once again for 3 months I decided to take the carnivore plunge 7 months ago.”
Elainie finally found the health she was looking for, and then some! “I have not looked back. Just got my blood panel back saying, “You may not actually need ANY more thyroid hormone again. Let’s do a recheck panel in 6 weeks.”
Elainie now follows a carnivore diet and is continuing to enjoy the health benefits of complete nutrition. “I am elated, of course I have never felt better in my life, carni diet gave me back my vitality, and I do not suffer digestive issues as I did when ingesting plants.”
She does include a spectrum of carnivore foods for variety and complete nutrition: “Red meat is my favorite but I also eat fish, game, seafood, organ meats, eggs and some raw dairy. I eat animal food both raw and seared blue.
“It is a most gratifying way of life, my mental state is calm and I have great clarity of mind. It has in essence transformed my life at 52 years young.”
