William improves weight and blood markers on the carnivore diet

A Standard American Diet with a Twist

William’s dietary journey begins with something familiar to many: the standard American diet. However, his version is slightly different. Raised with less sugar than his peers and influenced by the low-fat craze, William’s diet was not as bad as some. But by the time he reached 43, he had put on a few inches around his waist, and his love for apple fritters was undeniable. Though he never felt “hangry,” he admits to indulging in half a dozen donuts after a tiring day at work.

The Knee Pain Mystery

Despite not having any diagnosed health conditions, William did face some physical challenges. While deployed in Kuwait, he noticed that his knees hurt all the time. A fellow soldier told him that it was just a part of life, something he had to accept. Eventually, the pain became so unbearable that William gave up running altogether, a decision that weighed heavily on him as a competitive rower.

The Ketogenic Experiment

William’s wife, a marathoner, sparked their interest in the ketogenic diet. Initially hesitant about giving up beer, she eventually decided to give it a try, and William was more than happy to join her. They both embarked on the ketogenic diet in June 2018, with William having no trouble adapting and his wife overcoming a brief period of sickness. Within three months, her running was back to baseline, and her pre-race meal had transformed into a giant steak.

Embracing the Carnivore Lifestyle

In November 2018, the couple decided to take their dietary experiment a step further by adopting a strict carnivore diet, eating nothing but steak for four weeks. The timing was perfect, falling between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they were excited to see the results. Three weeks into the experiment, William’s wife declared that she never wanted to stop, and they’ve been on the carnivore diet ever since.

Remarkable Health Improvements

The benefits of the carnivore diet were numerous and unexpected for William. He lost 30 pounds, regained more than half of it in lean mass, and reduced his waist size to what it was in college. His deadlifting improved, and his blood markers, including fasting insulin and CRP, were excellent. Most astonishingly, his knee pain disappeared, allowing him to run as much as he pleased without any discomfort. William reflects on these improvements with a sense of wonder, realizing that he doesn’t have to give up activities just because he’s 45 years old.

A Rowing Dream

William’s passion for rowing is a significant part of his life, and the carnivore diet has only fueled that passion further. He admires fellow rowers and dreams of rowing with them in beautiful locations like Long Beach. The strength and energy he’s gained from the carnivore diet make him believe that he and his rowing partners would be an unbeatable team.

Conclusion: A Life Transformed

William’s experience with the carnivore diet is a testament to the power of food and its impact on our health and well-being. From a standard American diet to a strict carnivore lifestyle, his journey has been marked by curiosity, experimentation, and remarkable results. The improvements in his physical health, the disappearance of his knee pain, and the newfound energy for his beloved rowing are all evidence of a life transformed. William’s story is an inspiring example of how dietary choices can lead to unexpected and positive changes, offering hope and encouragement to others seeking a healthier and more fulfilling life.

From Keto to Carnivore: William’s Weight Loss and Athletic Gains

William is 45 years old and is a practicing psychiatrist who has lost weight and resolved years of knee pain on the carnivore diet.

Although he reports having been in overall good health before changing his diet, William joined his wife in solidarity and support and began following the ketogenic diet a year ago. “After several months on the keto diet, we shifted over to the carnivore diet.

Dr. Shawn Baker was our inspiration,” William explains. And the way they eat is not the only thing William and his wife have in common with Dr. Baker. “Both of us have been competitive rowers.

My wife competed in college, and I continue to be a competitive rower now. Since we switched over to the carnivore diet, the overall results have been amazing.”

Waistline Shrinks, Chronic Knee Pain Disappears on Carnivore Diet

William reports even better results and athletic performance when he switched from the ketogenic diet to the carnivore diet, removing all plants and consuming only animal foods. “I lost a net of 30 pounds, and more importantly, I lost between 3 and 4 inches off my waist.”

For a point of reference, William adds that he measured a 34-inch waist at age 19, but had increased to 36 inches by his 40th birthday. “Within a few weeks on the ketogenic diet, and then later moving into the carnivore diet, I was back down to a 34-inch waist, and those are getting loose!”

A general consensus from health professionals regarding waist circumference is that healthy males measure below 40 inches and females measure below 35 inches. Larger waist circumference can be linked to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

William has also seen important gains at the gym, and more specifically, his weight-lifting routine. “I’ve been lifting weights regularly, and I can say I’m the strongest I’ve been since I was at least 22 years old. I really enjoy squatting consistently as well as the deadlift.”

Stronger Than Ever: Weightlifting Success on the Carnivore Diet

This was a significant win for William, as he previously suffered from chronic knee pain. “It got to the point where I had to stop running entirely,” he recalls.

“About five years ago, I decided that I wasn’t going to run anymore because my knees hurt all the time. The only way I could avoid knee pain was to do impact-free exercise like rowing.”

Since transitioning over to the carnivore diet, William is pleased to report that his pain has disappeared. “Moving to the carnivore diet, I’ve found that my knee pain completely went away, and now I can run whenever I feel like it,” he shares.

“I regularly run for 10 to 15 minutes for warm-ups before I lift weights. Every once in a while, I’ll run outside for 3 or 4 miles at a time. I haven’t had a problem with my knee in over a year now.”

No Health Issues, Normal Test Results on Carnivore Diet

William was fortunate to not require prescription medication or suffer from any major health issues before starting the carnivore diet, and confirms that all of his test results still are within normal range.

“My lipid panel was fine, as well as all of my other measures. Since then, I have had my fasting insulin tested and it’s down to around a 1.”

Results are not typical. All viewers of this content, especially those taking prescription or over-the-counter medications, should consult their physicians before beginning any nutrition, supplement or lifestyle program.
