From Skeptic to Believer: Eddie’s Carnivore Diet Transformation
World’s Strongest Man Eddie admits he was skeptical before trying the carnivore diet, but after 90 days of meat, eggs, and dairy, his perspective completely changed. “It really has changed my life,” he says. “In my opinion, I’m a much healthier person now, eating the way I do.”
Eddie’s initial foray into the carnivore lifestyle included ribeye steaks, bacon, black pudding (pig’s blood mixed with beef fat), halloumi cheese, full-fat cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and other animal-based foods. Once he overcame the initial adjustment period of about three weeks, he began noticing dramatic improvements.
“The Energy Shocked Me”: Performance Without Carbs
Perhaps the most surprising benefit for Eddie was the sustained energy he experienced on a carnivore diet. “I just didn’t think you could function without carbs,” he reveals. “That completely changed my mindset on the carnivore diet.”
This energy translated directly into his training. Despite consuming no carbohydrates, Eddie found himself hitting personal bests in the gym—something that contradicted conventional wisdom about strength performance. “At one point, I was shoulder pressing 100 kilo dumbbells, which I haven’t done since 2019. I was doing personal bests on some of the weights. That was a great big shocker for me.”
Reduced Inflammation: The Key to Recovery
A critical factor in Eddie’s improved performance was the significant reduction in inflammation throughout his body. “I think it’s because the inflammation came down so much that I was able to push the weights that much harder and more regularly,” he explains.
The decreased inflammation also dramatically improved his recovery. “I’d train shoulders or chest or legs, and the next day there’d be no DOMS [delayed onset muscle soreness], and I just couldn’t believe it.”
Eating Like a Champion: 7,000+ Calories of Animal Foods
As someone who needs substantial calories to fuel his training, Eddie consumed “upwards of 7,000 calories easily” on most days while following the carnivore diet. The high fat content of his food choices helped him reach this caloric intake.
Despite consuming such a large amount of food, Eddie experienced noticeable body composition improvements. “It was incredible to see the weight drop off. I was just shoveling all this food in and having this immense amount of energy.”
Sleep: The Unexpected Benefit
While many benefits were apparent, Eddie ranks improved sleep as perhaps the most significant advantage of his carnivore lifestyle. “I found myself sleeping so much better, just going to bed and waking up fresh, which I wasn’t having before.”
The quality sleep created a positive cascade effect on his overall wellness. “Even now, my diet is 90% meat-based, and I sleep so much better, which in turn gives you a whole remedy of benefits. The inflammation goes down, and your energy levels are up.”
A Continuing Carnivore Journey
After completing his initial 90-day carnivore experiment, Eddie continues to maintain a primarily animal-based diet. “Still to this day, I uphold pretty much a fairly strict carnivore diet,” he shares.
His current approach includes meat, eggs, and dairy as the foundation, with occasional berries (mainly blueberries) 2-3 times per week after particularly strenuous exercise. He also incorporates small amounts of fermented vegetables in the form of live cultured sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickled foods.
Passing the Carnivore Torch to the Next Generation
Eddie’s positive experience has influenced his family as well. His 12-year-old son has become “a massive advocate for steak and eggs” and regularly enjoys ribeye steak. His 20-month-old daughter is described as “a little carnivore” who “will eat anything with butter and salt on it” and enthusiastically joins her father for meals of ribeye steaks and bacon.
Eddie and his partner prioritize nutrition for their children, ensuring their daughter has at least one organic egg daily for optimal brain development.
For Eddie, the carnivore diet has proven to be more than just a temporary experiment—it’s become a sustainable lifestyle that supports his athletic performance, recovery, and overall health.
