Andrea no longer has symptoms of Grave’s disease on a carnivore diet

Andrea’s Health Journey: From Keto to Carnivore

Thirteen years ago, Andrea was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism.) In an effort to heal her symptoms, Andrea began following the keto diet for the next ten years. Her thyroid function shifted to hypothyroidism, and she was able to lose weight and heal from eating disorders.

Healing from Hypothyroidism with the Carnivore Diet

Andrea read about the carnivore diet in 2019 and decided to give it a try. Just three days into her new lifestyle, she felt so amazing that she knew she would continue this way of eating. “Somehow, I knew I found the answer. I felt so good mentally and physically that I knew this was it for me!” she shares. Andrea’s teenage daughter also follows a carnivore diet, and she too has seen improvements such as clearer skin and mental clarity.

Discovering the Benefits of the Carnivore Diet

“I found that there is a lot of science behind the carnivore diet that really makes sense,” Andrea explains. “When I realized there wasn’t any information about the carnivore diet in the German language, I knew I wanted to change that.” Andrea now has a devoted online following for German-language speakers who are seeking information on the diet, and she recently started to set up individual plans to uniquely approach their health concerns.

Simplifying Life with the Carnivore Diet

For a year and a half, Andrea has enjoyed simplifying her life with a carnivore diet. She enjoys more free time that she can devote towards her teaching job and spending more time with her family, not wandering the aisles of the grocery store. “We’ve got a lot of farms around where I live,” Andrea notes. “I can get grass-fed beef directly from the farmer and I can avoid the busy supermarkets.” She eats mostly local beef, but also includes pork and dairy.

High-Fat and Intermittent Fasting on a Carnivore Diet

“I take a high-fat approach to eating, so 80% of my calories are coming from fat and only 20% from protein,” Andrea explains. “I feel best this way being in stronger ketosis.” She enjoys smaller portions (usually no more than a pound of meat), and finds intermittent fasting comes naturally to her now that she is on a meat-based diet. “I feel such a deep satiation from a carnivore diet. The mental clarity and improvement is what really helped me stick to it.”

Feeling Stronger and Healthier on a Carnivore Diet

At 42 years old, Andrea says she feels stronger than ever, and has been able to take up running as well as strength training.”I used to be able to do just five push-ups, but now I can do 15-20 with no problem! I really feel my muscles have just gotten stronger.” She no longer has any joint pain, which had still been present while following a keto diet.

Most of all, Andrea is thrilled to be healed from hypothyroidism. “The ultimate thing for me is that one year ago, after six months on carnivore, under my doctor’s supervision, I stopped taking my thyroid medication. My thyroid is functioning normally now.”

  1. diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism.)

how did it go from (hyperthyroidism.) to hypo? What kind if medicin were you on?

    1. If I had to take a stab at it I would say she was given Methimazole for hyperthyroidism. I was diagnosed with Grave’s disease about a year ago and it was the medication I was given. They started me on a fairly strong dose, I have been intermittent fasting and started transitioning to a carnivore diet. I am now about 80 to 85 percent carnivore. Over the last 6 months or so they keep dropping my dosage, now I am taking the smallest dose they normally prescribe. I imagine once I go completely carnivore I will be able to stop the medication completely.
