Jose got in control of his cravings on a carnivore diet

Jose knew he had to find a way to lose weight and get his acid reflux under control after he suffered a scary incident that felt like a heart attack. “I was living by myself at the time, and I was at my heaviest, 420 pounds. I woke up scared from the acid reflux attack, and I realized I needed to stop eating everything in front of me. I knew I needed to take this into my own hands and fix it. You can ask for help, but it always falls on you to do it for yourself.

Over the years, Jose, now 34, had tried several different ways of eating, including vegan and paleo. “I wanted to find the best way to do keto, and started adding more meat and less vegetables.” Eventually, Jose heard about the carnivore diet from several of the health influencers he was following. “I never liked vegetables, so I decided to give carnivore a try.”

In the beginning, Jose had a bit of a rough transition when he transitioned to a carnivore diet. “My mistake when I first started was not consuming enough fat or enough salt. I started feeling fatigue and had headaches. Once I increased my salt and fat, I could feel my energy come back.” He was encouraged to find that the “out-of-control cravings” he had while following keto and other diets finally went away after making the switch.

As a busy guy working a full-time job plus two part-time jobs, Jose knew that meal prepping would be the key to his success on carnivore. On Sundays, he cooks up several pounds of ground beef to have throughout the week. “I keep a lot of my food really simple,” Jose shares with Revero coach Tracy. “A lot of my friends think I’m crazy because I will just eat a bunch of hamburger patties. But honestly, I feel amazing when I do this.” Jose will sometimes add eggs to go with his ground beef, and enjoys cooking with butter and beef tallow.

Since making the switch to carnivore, Jose says his energy is “through the roof”. He no longer needs a nap, and can start his work day early and have energy throughout the entire day, including mixed martial arts workouts several times a week. Jose has also lost a total of 150 pounds, with 40 pounds coming off in the six months that he’s been following a meat-based diet. He previously had red spots on his skin, but those have completely gone away, his hair is growing faster and shinier, and he no longer has any joint pain.

“It was probably the best decision I’ve ever made,” Jose shares. “It opened up my eyes to the whole world of food and how my body reacts to everything.” Jose found support from his girlfriend, who also follows a carnivore diet with him. While his family and some friends aren’t fully on board yet, Jose has come to realize that eating this way is what works best for him. Jose’s advice for a carnivore diet is to “keep it simple!”
