Amy finds relief from EDS & POTS with Carnivore Diet

From Debilitation to Determination: Amy’s Carnivore Diet Transformation

Amy H. was once trapped in a seemingly hopeless cycle of chronic illness, facing daily joint dislocations, debilitating pain, and reliance on a wheelchair. “Every day I was grieving something I couldn’t do anymore,” she recalls. “I could not even stand up long enough to fry an egg.” After a friend suggested the carnivore diet, Amy embarked on a 90-day experiment that fundamentally reshaped her existence. “It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done,” she states, reflecting on her journey since January 2024. “I started feeling better immediately.”

Amy’s life before carnivore was a litany of painful and restrictive conditions. Diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a connective tissue disorder, she endured three to four joint dislocations or subluxations daily. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), or brittle bone disease, meant she could “slide my shoe off and put my shoe on the ground and break a bone.” Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) largely confined her to a wheelchair for five to six years, as standing for even a minute or two was an ordeal. Adding to this were Myasthenia Gravis, an eating disorder since age five, suicidal depression, and a host of other diagnoses that led to “three or four doctor’s appointments a day every day of the week” and frequent dismissal from medical professionals: “There’s a lot of gaslighting… You’re too young for that… It’s all in your head.”

Encouraged to try carnivore and inspired by Dr. Ken Berry’s 90-day challenge, Amy committed to a diet primarily of “beef bacon butter and eggs.” She wasn’t aiming for weight loss, but simply to “get healthier.”

Rapid Relief: Beyond Expectations

The changes came astonishingly quickly. “I started feeling better immediately,” Amy emphasizes. One of the first profound shifts was pain reduction. “Probably two weeks in… my head to toe pain just completely went away.” Mental clarity followed soon after. “Probably about two or three weeks in, it felt like a literal the blinds were here and they had been opened up… my brain was clear, my brain fog went away.”

Reclaiming Mobility: EDS and POTS in Retreat

The impact on her most debilitating conditions was nothing short of miraculous. For her EDS, the constant joint instability eased dramatically. “Before I started carnivore I dislocated or sublex something at least three or four times a day,” Amy explains. “Now… I sublex maybe two or three times a week. I even have some weeks where I don’t dislocate anything.” She marvels, “I think my EDS is reversing.”

Her POTS, the main reason for her wheelchair use, also saw incredible improvement. By the second week of March, just under two months into her carnivore journey, Amy put her wheelchair into storage. “It’s been there ever since,” she says. She recounts attending a full-day event, standing and walking for the majority of it: “I probably sat down that entire time a total of about 3 hours. That is a miracle.” Her Myasthenia Gravis symptoms, like severe arm fatigue from simple tasks like brushing her hair, also resolved: “I’m having no trouble with my muscles at all right now.”

“The Mental Shift Shocked Me”: Conquering Depression and Reclaiming Joy

Perhaps as significant as the physical healing was the mental and emotional transformation. “Number one is the depression because I was so so depressed,” Amy shares. “My attitude my mindset got better my depression got better.” The crippling brain fog lifted, allowing her to “logically think through the steps I needed to do to make something happen.” Her passion for life, including photography and mission work, which had been extinguished by hopelessness, returned with vigor.

Nourishment Over Guilt: Healing an Eating Disorder

Having struggled with an eating disorder since childhood, where food was often a source of punishment, carnivore offered a new perspective. “I’ve had an eating disorder since I was five,” she says. “Carnivore taught me to see food as nourishment rather than a source of guilt or shame. I stopped punishing myself for eating.”

Weight Loss and Renewed Vigor

While not her primary goal, Amy has lost 70-75 pounds. This, combined with pain reduction, has led to improved rest. “I rest better I sleep better,” she notes, a stark contrast to the 2.5-3 hours of broken sleep she endured nightly due to pain. Her recovery from activity has also drastically improved, from needing a week in bed after minimal exertion to requiring only 20-30 minutes of rest.

Doctors’ Astonishment: “You Are a Completely Different Person”

The dramatic changes did not go unnoticed by her medical team. One doctor, seeing her transformation, exclaimed, “You are not the same person that I saw last time. You are a completely different person. What are you doing? Carnivore.” The consensus from her physicians has been overwhelmingly positive: “All of them are keep doing what you’re doing… it’s working for you. Don’t stop.”

A Continuing Carnivore Mission

Amy continues to thrive on her carnivore diet, still centered around animal products. Her newfound health has reignited her calling as a missionary, with plans to serve, potentially even living in a van or returning to Nigeria, confident in her ability to maintain her healing diet.

Sharing the Carnivore Message

Inspired by her transformation, Amy has co-authored several children’s books, such as “Superhuman Power Foods for Humanity” and “Sugar QB the Sugar Monster,” to teach children about the benefits of a carnivore lifestyle, truly passing on the message of hope and healing she has experienced. For Amy, the carnivore diet has been more than a diet; it has been a resurrection.
