For Selina, the standard markers of a healthy life were all there. Raised in the fitness world of Southern California, she had been vegan, vegetarian, and a “clean eater” for most of her life. She was a competitive dancer, training up to eight hours a day. But by 2012, the wheels began to fall off.
Despite her active lifestyle, Selina suddenly gained 70 pounds in less than a year. She was plagued by a crushing lethargy that required four cups of coffee and multiple energy drinks just to survive the day. “I felt like I was dragging my body behind me,” she remembers. For five years, doctors dismissed her, telling her the fatigue was simply because she was overweight. The advice was always the same: eat less, move more.
The “Death Sentence” Diagnosis
In 2017, the mystery was finally solved, but the answer was devastating. Selina was diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma (FTC)—thyroid cancer. She had a 4.3 cm tumor on her right thyroid lobe, and doctors were concerned it was spreading.
The medical system offered two paths: full thyroid removal or radiation. Both meant a lifetime of dependency on synthetic hormones. Selina, a single mother at the time, felt a deep sense of wrongness in her gut. “I can’t see that our bodies are just designed to fail,” she told herself. When her doctor insisted these were her only options, she walked out. “Thanks, but no thanks.”
The Seven-Year Rabbit Hole
Selina went home and dove into a “huge rabbit hole” of nutritional biology. She began to suspect that the very plant-based “healthy” foods she had been eating—spinach, grains, and goitrogenic vegetables—were contributing to her thyroid’s dysfunction.
Slowly, over seven years, she stripped away the plant-based foods, moving closer and closer to an animal-based way of eating. By 2021, she had already lost 112 pounds, going from 272 down to 160. But the most shocking turn was yet to come.
The Miracle Biopsy
Under pressure to check her progress, Selina saw a new endocrinologist in 2021. The mass was still there, and Selina agreed to a hemi-thyroidectomy (removing only half). When the surgeons biopsied the removed lobe—the same one that had previously shown high-grade cancer—the results came back completely cancer-free.
The victories that followed felt like a total restoration of her life:
Hormonal Reset: After 15 years of being told she might never conceive again due to hormonal issues, Selina became pregnant just six weeks after her surgery.
The “Mental Chatter” Ends: Transitioning to a full Carnivore diet (beef, salt, eggs, and butter) removed the “office treat” addiction. The mental chatter about sugar simply vanished.
Infinite Energy: Today, at 36, Selina is learning to surf and keeping up with a “smart as a whip” three-year-old who is also thriving on a carnivore diet.
A Community of Healing
Today, Selina shares her journey through Primal Fox Health on Instagram and YouTube. She is a voice for those who feel gaslit by a system that prioritizes medication over metabolic repair. For Selina, the “incurable” was just an invitation to look deeper into the power of the human body to repair itself.
“We’re taught in elementary school that our bodies are designed to heal… how is it that we can’t repair from cancer? I eliminated the plant-based foods, and I haven’t had any symptoms at all like I did before.”
