Hello! My name is Rick and I am 54 years old. I am retired from my job inside of a prison where I assisted prisoners into transition into the community after parole. I had to medically retire due to having 4 (yes 4) knee replacements in the last 10 years, in addition to two neck surgeries, discectomies and fusions of my C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. I was unable to have daily contact with prisoners after so many surgeries…..and I could never clear the metal detector after so many implants:-). I wished I would have found the carnivore diet years earlier as I would most likely have eliminated the need for any knee surgeries at all.

I used to run marathons, work out (with considerable pain) and pumped all sorts of carb-heavy beverages and foods into my body for energy along the way, dealing with all types of inflammation, eczema, psoriasis, anxiety, high blood pressure, and stomach issues, including GERD.

Cutting gluten out of my life about 4 years ago, some of my symptoms were lessened, but never went completely away. Craft beer and bread were common staples in my previous diet until I realized they had no place in a healthy diet, at least not regularly.

Adopting a ketogenic diet about 3 years ago, I had the personal experience of lessening my symptoms even more but some were still present in some degree or another and I was still on blood pressure medications, stomach medications, and anti-anxiety medications, as well as carrying a little bit of extra weight!

Approximately two years ago, I took the dive into a carnivore diet and I’ve had personal experience with losing another 30 pounds, getting off ALL of my medications, and feel better than I ever have in my life. All my blood markers are on point and I am able to workout regularly at the gym, have an enormous amount of energy, and walk at least 12,000 steps a day (on my fake knees, nonetheless!)

Words cannot express the thanks that I have to give to all of the men and women who have helped me coached me along the way and gave me the inspiration and information necessary to succeed at this way of life!

As a Certified Family Life Educator with the National Council on Family Relations I believe that the way to strengthen individual and family life through a family perspective and you cannot focus on the family and community without first focusing on yourself and your best functional health! No other way of life has given me the tools to do this other than a lifestyle focused on optimal health which starts and ends with getting rid of the many horrible “Standard American” food choices we are predominantly faced with today.

Let me help coach you in your journey to better health, the way we, as humans, were designed to eat!

I chose Rick due to his bio and knee surgeries as I am in a similar situation, but have not undergone TKA (Total knee Arthroplasty). I am an Orthopedic PA by trade and know the results of this surgery to be quite good and can literally give people their lives back. Despite this, mentally I just wasn’t ready to go forward with the surgery which was scheduled for 3/15/22- for my surgeons’ (and my boss) convenience, not mine. And I just needed a little push to say “no”, I can always do it later, after I give Carnivore a legitimate try.
I still have hope for that “miracle stem cell articular cartilage regrowth” and I will be able to avoid TKA altogether. Rick was extremely helpful in helping me to decide to crank up the discipline, hold off on the surgery for now and just see what happens. I have known of and followed Dr. Baker since his JRE podcast. And I too, have significant misgivings of the current medical model, and unfortunately, I have bills and need that check until I can find a way out- which I am working on post haste. I have definitely leaned towards carnivore, but my wife has a bit of a sweet tooth and likes to bake. (She is in fantastic shape, avid runner and getting involved in the mini/half iron man, but she will be the first to tell you: “I run so I can eat my sweets”.) Although I do not buy sweets, they are almost always on the counter and my evening discipline of saying no was pitiful at best. I also quit chewing tobacco 10/4/20. The nicotine withdrawal is long ago done (it’s only about 72 hours), but the habit of having something in my mouth is still quite real, which was replaced with evening nibbling on not-so-good food (gained about 15lbs of fat since quitting tobacco as well) Rick made some great suggestions, and again, I just needed that verbal kick in the ass to “just do it”. My goal is to re-evaluate my knee pain (I have extensive grade 4 (bone-on-bone) arthritis in the medial compartment and grade 3 in the patellofemoral compartment) in 3-4 months – with minimal cheating on the carnivore diet-and make another appt with Rick to let him know the results. This way his clients will benefit and I will be close to the 6 month requirement to potentially become a coach myself. See y’all in 3-4 months.
